Casual outfits

February 14, 2007

I know it sounds strange, but I hardly have any clothes that are casual or distressed in my wardrobe. When I go shopping I always buy clothes that are somewhat dressy that could be worn to a party or those days when I’m in the mood to spend a lot of time getting ready in the morning. But the truth is I hardly ever feel like dressing up. It would be nice to just have some simple clothes to throw on and leave the house looking laid back and effortlessly cool. Now, an outfit like this would be perfect. In the spring time I like the wear short denim shorts and skirts, but a pair of long worn out jeans for those days I forgot to shave my legs would be nice :P I’m not a big fan of jeans but I think they look good with a pair of simple sandals. The grey loose fitted top looks very comfy too and the necklace is a fun accessory for this outfit. I also think the brown leather bag is amazing and it works well with the sandals I picked out. This outfit would be perfect to wear to a concert, or for drinking a cup of coffee with a couple of friends after a long night out.

Now, I have to say I’m in LOVE with this outfit. I guess most of you will feel a little WTF? right now, but I just think it’s fantastic. Let me explain: I found the top. I love the cut and shape of it. I thought it would work really well with a really short denim skirt in a darker shade. It looked a little plain and I couldn’t exactly think of when I would wear something like it. While I was browsing trough the different clothes I suddenly found an awesome leather jacket from Abercrombie & Fitch. Then I started thinking of what it’s like during the summer. When we visit our cabin in the mountains during the summer holiday we always stay up late and sit outside until it’s dark. The thing is I always get cold when we are sitting outside so late around the bonfire. It would be so nice to just pull on this comfy jacket, goofy warm hat and long scarf in a situation like that. I also love those sandals and I think the necklace compliments the denim skirt.

Trend alert: purple

February 13, 2007

Like you might have noticed I just love looking at different runway shows and try spotting new trends. Well, I’m not sure I would call this a new trend, but purple is very hot this spring. So if blue just isn’t your thing -purple is a winner. There are so many different designs to choose from and here are some of my favourites :)

Swan lake?

February 12, 2007

After last fall’s leopard frenzy it was time for change. The animal print fever that dominated Allesandro Dell’acqua’s collection –among others- this spring is yesterday’s news. This fall I was surprised to see that so many designers with completely different styles used feathers -yes feathers- in their collections. I think it’s an interesting trend and I for sure never predicted something like this would happen, especially for fall. Alberta Ferretti had a very cool sleeveless black dress decorated with black feathers. Andrew Gn showed some beautiful pieces made from feathers. My favourite would have to be the chic feather jackets with a delicate ribbon decoration and super elegant high-waist minis luxurious fabrics. The feathers create the sophisticated and feminine look that I’m so found of. It’s not like I’m purchasing a feathered boa anytime soon, but I wouldn’t mind wearing something like this to a formal dinner or classy event.

Allegra Hicks, fall 07

February 11, 2007

Like always, I fell in love with the Allegra Hicks collection. The fall 07 designs are soft, feminine and fantastic. I love the all the fabrics, colour combinations and patterns she used. My favourite designs from the whole collection would have to be the blue dresses. Allegra Hicks is one of my favourite designers and I have no doubt that my fall wardrobe will be influenced by her wonderful designs :)

Get out!

February 10, 2007

You might remember how I commented on how fantastic these shoes are a while back.
Well, I’m constantly being reminded of how much I want them.
I seriously have to find a shop where I can buy them. Very, very soon.

Some new stuff!

February 9, 2007

The dress and top are both from Cubus. The blue top was only $7 on sale!

I didn’t know what colour to get, so I bought both :)

Miss Sixty, fall 07

February 8, 2007

To be honest, all the fall collections I have seen so far has been rather disappointing. I think a lot of the designers has taken the “ugly is nice” thing a little too far. I mean, models walking down the runway in garbage bags, bedsheets and grandpa’s old sweaters… how much further can this go? I just feel like some of the designers are only competing to see who can shock their audience the most and that they are forgetting about making wonderful clothes women would kill to wear. In a way I guess you could say the miss sixty fall 07 collection was a bit of a highlight for me, even though the collection has it’s flaws. Some of the designs were hideous and some of them were quite good. The thing that dissapointed me slightly was the fact that miss sixty focused more on shiny leggings and stockings instead of staying with the traditional jeans, which I feel has always been part of their marketing profile. Miss sixty has seen better days, but this isn’t a bad collection at all.

The dress in the first picture has to be my favourite piece from the whole collection. There’s something about the shape, pattern and colours that appeal to me. It looks very feminine, but at the same time a bit daring and edgy. I actually think the shiny tights work well with the dress, though I have to admit it would probably have looked a lot better with a classic pair of black silk stockings. The only thing out of place would have to be the sunglasses. This is supposed to be a fall collection, no? I just hate this trend and it’s so overused by now. There’s nothing that looks worse than people wearing sunglasses when there’s no sun or they are inside.

I am in love with the design in the second picture! My favourite thing about this design would have to be the stockings. They are just so nice and shiny. I remember my mom used to wear something like that (more gold though) when she was younger. Also the flower decoration and shorts… it just gives me a sort of romantic feeling. Like a girl who had so much fun during the summer and is now having a hard time giving it up.

I like these two designs as well. But I have a problem with the bronze leggings. This is just too much. Still, the rest of the outfit and the metallic bag looks goood. I think the hat works too, without looking too Justin Timberlake. There’s something bothering me with the design in the left picture, though. The flower placement just looks to sexual for me and I also think the head piece looks quite out of place, to be honest.

Again, I love the dress in the left picture! But like I mentioned earlier with the design in the first picture, I think it would have looked a lot better with classic black silk stockings. Red could have worked too, if you ask me. I also love the boots, they are wonderful! Now the design in the right picture is really miss sixty. I was happy to see their signature and sort of “traditional style” in this outfit. The printed dress, red leather boots, miss sixty necklace and hairdo… fantastic :)

Fall 07 trend: grandpa look

February 7, 2007

This fall you should turn to grandpa for some fashion advice.
Throw on a pair of his old wide legged pants and grab his collection of vintage knits while you’re at it because the designers have made one clear statement with their collections -grandpa sure knows how to work it.

Yes sure thing, wide legged pants, knits, vests and your grandpa’s old dancing shoes are hot must-have pieces this fall. It looks like many designers are tired of the super feminine figure hugging dresses. Fall is all about dressing down and being comfortable. Do I like it? Do I not like it? To be honest, I’m not sure. I think this new trend is very amusing and I can’t help feeling a little ‘awww’ when I see the pieces. There’s something sort of sweet about the whole thing. Still, many of the outfits I’ve seen are a little too much ‘holiday in florida’ and ‘old golf outfit’ for my taste.

But before you get on your way to the mall to cash those oh-so-super-trendy coupons, or drop by the retirement home to hang with your new posse -take a look at these runway pictures :)

Donna Karan, DKNY, Fall 07

February 6, 2007

I’ve been very disappointed with the fall collections so far, but everything seemed a little brighter when I saw the DKNY collection by Donna Karan. Like always the DKNY collection had an urban style close to perfection. The designs had French influences which gave the collection a romantic and sweet feel. Though there was a hint of mean streets in some of the designs. The balance created between the French romance and New York cool is what saved this collection from being cliché and the overused “cute-French-movie-look”. One of my favourite things about this collection would have to be the woolen leggings. The quality gives the outfits a sort of vintage feel and they look perfect with the cute rounded toe shoes. It also looks like we will have to freeze our legs of this fall too, because the short skirt length trend sure isn’t going away any time soon.

These are my favourite four designs from the whole collection. The purple tweed suit paired with the purple sequined top caught my eye straight away. I think it looks gorgeous and If I could find something like it this fall I would be the happiest girl in the world. Either way, I will without doubt be wearing something like it. I very much liked the black sequin trend from the spring collections and how could we ever forget those wonderful chanel hotpants? I am so glad to see that some designers are holding on to this trend for fall too. These black sequined skinnies look great on the runway and the simple grey top tones it down, keeping it from looking tacky. The same goes for the wonderful white silk dress. The floral print gives me a sort of nostalgic feel, looking back at the summer. Flowers also go well with the French influences on the collection, but the colours and shape of the dress makes the design look raw and quite tomboy-ish. I just love this contrast. The design in the 4th picture is fantastic too! It looks so feminine and chic, without being too much. The shoes have to be my favourite thing about it.

Now, the yellow coat in the first picture is simply gorgeous, don’t you think? I just love the shade and fabric it’s made of. I love how the designer has kept the quite masculine shape of a raincoat, but used a feminine and soft fabric. Moving on to the next design, I just love how tough and confident the model looks in that outfit. It’s simple, yet wonderful. I also love the woolen fabric the dress is made of and that it’s “softened up” with a more delicate black and white scarf. And I was so excited when I saw the wonderful tweed coat in the 3rd picture. I’ve always been a huge fan of tweed and I think it looks great. I really want something similar to that. Again, look at the shoes! Fantastic. The design in the 4th picture is very much up my alley. The tracksuit jacket gives the design a sort of fight club look. I’m not digging the hat with this design, though.

I think all of these four are strong designs too, but they where not among my favourites from this collection. I think they look a little too much like things I’ve seen so many times before and I get the feeling that something is missing. I love the striped skirt in the first picture, though it think it would have looked better with a simple white shirt, instead of the floral pattern. I’ve never really been fond of mixing different patterns in the same outfit. It always ends up looking messy. The dress in the second picture looks very nice too, but it reminds me too much of Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s spring collection, which has left a quite bitter aftertaste in my mouth. Again I think the hat looks out of place. The dress Jessica Stam is wearing in the third picture is very nice and cute. I love the white details and the shape of the dress. I like that it’s loose fitted and that it looks so elegant. Once again, the shoes are fantastic. I’m not sure what I feel about the purple design in the last picture. The over sized sweater isn’t working that well for me and I think it would have looked a lot better with different shoes.

Fall 07 trend: blue

February 5, 2007

If you have been reading my journal for some time now, you might remember the post I made about blue being one of the it colours for spring 07. I don’t know about the rest of you but I sure am happy that this wonderful colour is even hotter this fall! Whether you like wonderful navy blue dresses from Thakoon and Adam+Eve, or if a pair of daring shock blue pants from Jill Stuart is more your style, one thing is for sure -you won’t survive this fall without at least one blue piece of clothing in your wardrobe. If your on a tight budget investing your money in something blue could be an affordable way to look stylish this spring AND fall.
